Episode 93 – Music Detectives Listen To After Making Love

Episode 93 - Music Detectives Listen To After Making Love

Episode 93 – Music Detectives Listen To After Making Love (Artwork – D. Hixon)

I have an affinity for Detectives. I gravitate strongly towards the label of hopeless dreamer – and am enamored by both the Detectives search for truth as well as their beautiful flaws – they’re such a hyperbolic yet real manifestation of what it means to be a walking talking breathing human. These are songs I think those with Detective hearts would enjoy listenings to.

1. Isaac Hayes – Walk From Regio’s
2. Frank Zappa – Twenty Small Cigars
3. Sun Ra – Plutonian Nights
4. Piero Piccioni – Traffic Boom
5. Quiet Village – Circus Of Horror

12. Pantha Du Prince – Lions Love

Episode 91 – NOCtoberfest 2016

NOCtoberfest 2016 Playlist

NOCtoberfest 2016 Playlist

DJing G2 Tech Group’s annual NOCtoberfest is always a good time – and last night was no exception. I played a funk to hip-hop to electro set that allotted for things to go off in an elegantly weird fashion. Also, T-Rex overtook the dance floor to the delight of my airhorn.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (Artwork - D.Hixon)

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish – nearly 5 hours of vinyl mixin’. (Artwork – D.Hixon)

This is a vinyl mix spun live from the Art Life Expo on Saturday 9.24.16. I was in the front of the room, with the nights lights of Broadway in Somerville bouncing off my back as I was flanked in all other directions by the art from local Artists – showing off what they do on their unexcused time. The festive night had a wistful tilt to it as it was also the last night that East End Grille, the establishment all this was going down in, would be open. Safe to say, East End Grille went out with a bang, or…..at least in a cloud of smoke – and I was lucky enough to provide the soundtrack to a night flipped in all sorts of weird ways of Surreal. Thanks to the artists for having me (Dave/Rachel), and long live East End Grille – East End Grille is dead (Peace to Kris & Clay).

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

A survey on FaceBook asking the genre of my next podcast ended up a tie between DREAMY and HOUSE. Tamarindo Sessions: Reggae / Afro Funk – Mint Pillow

I’m currently 30,000 or so feet above the ground – reflecting on a week in Paradise with good friends, while listening to that new Kendrick Lamar. During the week I jumped behind my digital decks a couple of times and this is the mix that turned into a winner. I threw down at Villa de Don Vito in Tamarindo Costa Rica, basically a gated mansion surrounded by plush, and minutes away from the beach and other shenanigans. The mix was inspired by my good peeps, the incessant sun, surfing, and of course…..guaro. Enjoy.
